Shirdi – The spiritual town of Maharashtra

Shirdi is one of the holiest towns of Maharashtra highly revered by people across all faiths, castes and creeds. Sitting in the Rahata Tahasil in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, Shirdi is synonymous with the great spiritual leader Sai Baba also known as Shirdi Sai Baba.

The region posses an air of calmness and mysticism that instantly soothes a harrowed city soul which is completely relaxed and feeling tranquil at the end of day. Shirdi is an important pilgrimage site with millions of tourists across all religious beliefs pouring in from all quarters seeking the blessings of the spiritual guru. Shirdi was the region where Sai Baba magically appeared and lived in the region delivering teachings and guiding people on the right path of life.

He continued to do so till the time he took Samadhi in the year 1918.

Shirdi being pre-eminently a pilgrimage site the major attractions of the region include the various sites and other things associated with the life and death of Sai Baba like, the Sai Baba Temple, located in the heart of the city and is home to the Samadhi of Sai Baba and a life size idol of the spiritual guru, Dwarkamayi the place where Sai Baba resided till the time he took Samadhi, chavadi, it was the place where Sai Baba used to sleep every alternate day. Other attractions of the region include the Khandoba Raya Temple, Shani Mandir, Narsimha Mandir, Sakori Ashram and others. There are plenty of good hotels in Shirdi catering to the accommodation needs of all the pilgrims visiting the region.

Although Shirdi is visited throughout the year, the best time to visit the region is during the winter months of October to March when the weather is cool and pleasant. The closest airport from the region is the Aurangabad airport, alternatives to it is the Nasik, Mumbai and Pune airport, all lying in close proximity of the region. In addition to that the nearest railway station from Shirdi is in Kopargaon located approx 13 km from the region, an alternative to it is the Manmad Junction approx 52 km from the region. Lastly, there are plenty of buses and taxis available for Shirdi from various parts of the state and neighboring areas.
