Surat is a port city and the commercial capital of the state of Gujarat. The city is widely renowned for its textile and diamond processing industry and hence is also, aptly referred to as the ‘Diamond Capital of India’ and also the ‘Embroidery Capital of India’, owing to the large number of embroidery machines found in the region, more than any other states of India. Surat is also one of the fastest developing cities of India.

The region is also a popular tourist destination in Gujarat, with thousands of tourists arriving at the region annually. Surat also referred to as Suryapur has a rich historical background and was a significant region changing hands several times under various dynasties and empires, each leaving a deep impact on the region. Sitting on the banks of Tapti River, Surat also boasts of picturesque surroundings with forts and palaces adding to the beauty of the region.
