Thekkady is an important and extremely popular tourist attraction of Kerala widely renowned for its rich flora and fauna. The Sanctuary is home to many rare species of birds and animals like the elephants, sambars, tiger, gaur, lion –tailed macaques, Nilgiri langurs, Malabar giant squirrels, Travancore flying squirrels, fruit bats and numerous other migratory birds. In addition to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary there are quite a few other attractions in the region as well like, the Mangala Devi Temple, Vandanmedu, Spring Valley Mountain, Murikkady, Chellar Kovil, Anakkara and much more.There are plenty of good hotels in Thekaddy offering quality lodging facilities along with various services and facilities. The hotels in Thekaddy are found in all shapes and sizes catering to the varying needs and preferences of the myriad of travelers visiting the region. The best time to visit the region is during the months of October to March as you can also get the opportunity to spot various migratory birds found in the region during these times.
Thekaddy is also well connected to the rest of the country quite comfortably. Though, the only direct connectivity to the region is provided by the roadways the infrastructure of nearby region more than make up for it. The closest airport from the region is in Madurai approx 124 km from the region, while the nearest railway station from the region is in Kumarakom sitting approx 115km from the region. Large number of state and private buses along with rental cars and taxis can are widely available from various regions of South India for Thekaddy.
